Guest Artist - Jill Geraghty Groves Part 2

Darkroom Door - Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Jill has been busy again... and this project blew me away! Check it out:

Darkroomdoor1a

Supplies:
Darkroom Door Wilderness Montage
Darkroom Door Wilderness Filmstrips & Wordstrip
Tags
Muslin, ribbons, buttons, old papers...

Darkroomdoor2a

Jill says:

I made this to celebrate the freedom and exhilaration of glorious nature!!!  All of the Filmstrips were heavily distressed using Distress Inks and soaking in water. When they were dry, I further sanded them to give them even more of a weathered look. I adore them!

Starting by layering distressed (hmmm...am seeing a pattern here lol!) tags, I have machine stitched layers of tags and photos then chose some of the gorgeous wordstrips that inspire me to see the beauty in nature.

I have then dyed some muslin (dyed again with Distress Inks) and randomly stitched layers of muslin, flowers, leftover papers and ribbons, each toned in earthy colours.

To finish off I have added vintage buttons and then hand stitched glass beads and moss coloured thread.

Isn't this divine!!! I just want to run my fingers gently over the top to feel all that exquisite texture!

Thanks Jill!!!

Here's some instructions from Jill:

  • Scrunch up delicious photochips and "weather" using Distress Ink, water and sandpaper.
  • On a strip of old calico, lay layers of distressed papers and dyed muslin (again Distress Inks and waterspray!) and place weathered photochips at regular intervals.
  • Using your sewing machine, attached photochips using a straight stitch, treating just like you would fabric.
  • Make a loop through the top of wallhanging and insert three or four skewers tied to together (or even a funky twig!).
  • If available, add some vintage buttons to enhance the character.
  • Hang on wall and make your room look gorgeous!!!
